Seymour 6/86 (L Drummond 57no) def Puckapunyal 6/85 (B Horkings 2/12, B Pointon 2/11)

Seymour got its season underway at home with a solid win over Puckapunyal. They were able to restrict Puckapunyal to just 85 from their 20 overs at Chittick Park, largely thanks to economical bowling and two wickets each from Braidon Horkings and Brodey Pointon.

The run chase was far from straightforward as Ciaron Fountain picked up early wickets, leaving Seymour in trouble at 4-30 before Lachlan Drummond stood up.

Opening the batting, Drummond finished unbeaten on 57, including 8 fours and 1 six to virtually chase down Puckapunyal’s total single handed.

Seymour will now face Tallarook in the second round of T20 matches next weekend.

Alexandra 7/75 (M Mawson 23, V Hewage 20) def by Pyalong 7/79 (W Ashton 3/18)

Pyalong managed to sneak over the line in the final over of its clash with Alexandra at Leckie Park.

The Redbacks batted first and were only able to put 75 on the board, largely thanks to handy contributions from Will Ashton, Vinu Hewage and Michael Mawson. Matthew Pratt and James Wilkins both picked up two wickets for Pyalong.

Pyalong got the job done with just two balls remaining, with Alexandra skipper Will Ashton picking up 3/18 to cause difficulties in the chase.

Avenel 75 (T Stefanos 22, D Thompson 2/14, Z Mills 2/14) def by Yea Tigers 4/78 (B Hardinge 50no, T Stefanos 2/7)

Avenel batted first in its return to A Grade cricket with newly appointed Captain/Coach Travis Stefanos leading all comers with 22. Their innings was curtailed by Dylan Thompson and Zak Mills who claimed two wickets apiece.

Yea chased down Avenel’s total with ease, thanks to Captain Biron Hardinge who was the only Tiger to get to double fixtures, finishing 50 not out off 46 balls to guide his side home. Stefanos was the pick of the bowlers for Avenel with 2/7.

The Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever All Girls Cricket League, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at inspiring more female participation in cricket across the region. The competition will kick off at Puckapunyal on Wednesday, 3 December, with six action-packed rounds scheduled over the first three Wednesdays of December and February. The league will feature four teams: Puckapunyal, Tallarook, Yea, and a composite SDCA All Stars team. In an exciting twist, all games will be played simultaneously, ensuring a fast-paced and engaging experience for players and spectators alike. Matches will follow the popular Master Blaster format, using a soft ball to keep the focus on fun, inclusivity and skill development. The 12 over a side games will see every player bat in a pair for four overs and bowl two overs each. Double runs are on offer in a Power Play Zone and players hit the ball of a tee following a wide or no ball. This format emphasizes teamwork, fast scoring and continuous action, making it perfect for introducing new players to the game while keeping the intensity high. “This is a historic moment for the SDCA,” SDCA President Mitch Itter said. “Our All Girls League is just the beginning of our commitment to growing female participation in cricket. “We’re incredibly excited to see these young athletes take to the field, develop their skills, and build a lifelong love for the game.” “It’s all about having fun while learning the fundamentals. “Master Blaster cricket allows everyone to be involved, and the energy around this league is already electric. “We can’t wait to see the competition unfold over December and February.” The SDCA is encouraging any girls interested in playing to contact their local cricket club or the SDCA President Mitch Itter directly at pres.sdca@gmail.com . With this inaugural season, the association hopes to lay the foundation for a vibrant, long-term pathway for girls in cricket across the region.
