Yea Tigers 7/144 (A Butterworth 44no, C Armstrong 23, L Drummond 3/16, B Horkings 2/18) def by Seymour 8/149 (L Woolan 48, J Hesse 44, T White 3/17, C Armstrong 2/31)

It was a thriller at Yea with Seymour getting over the line by just five runs.

Batting first, Seymour lost its first three wickets at the hands of youngster Tom White who was the pick of Yea’s bowlers with 3/17.

Luke Woolan (48) and Jack Hesse (44) got Seymour back on track with a vital partnership, putting up a respectable total of 8/149.

Yea struggled to gain momentum in its run chase until Andrew Butterworth came to the crease, joined shortly after by Cam Armstrong.

Following Armstrong’s dismissal, Yea’s lower order continued the fight but left too much to do late in the game and despite Butterworth finishing unbeaten on 44, they were unable to get over the line.

Lachlan Drummond was the pick of Seymour’s bowlers with 3/16, while Braidon Horkings also chipped in with two wickets.

Avenel 62 (T Stefanos 17, K Winnell 6/19, T Dundon 3/5) def by Tallarook 7/204 (L Watts 123, T Dundon 35no)

Coming off a tough match last weekend, Avenel was keen to make amends as they took on the undefeated Tallarook at home. They made a solid start to the game, picking up a couple of early wickets, placing the reigning Premiers on the back foot.

Enter Lachlan Watts, who singlehandedly took the game away from Avenel in a classy and chanceless knock of 123 off 103 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes.

He was supported by Tarkyn Dundon who held up an end, finishing 35 not out off 80 balls, in Tallarook’s total of 7/204.

Avenel never got going in its run chase with Kal Winnell putting in a dominant performance with the ball, ripping the heart out of the middle order to finish with 6/19. Tarkyn Dundon capped off a strong all round performance with 3/5 off his six overs as Tallarook continues its unbeaten start to the season.

Pyalong 5/183 (J Pryor 50, M Ryan 39, D Fountain 2/31) def Puckapunyal 9/182 (N Bennetts 59, C Davies 29, A Ryan 3/28, A Pratt 3/44)

Pyalong picked up another win to remain in second place on the ladder but by the tightest of margins in a one run win over Puckapunyal.

Sent in to bat, Pyalong’s top and middle order all got starts with Jamie Pryor (50), Mitchell Ryan (39), Zane Ryan (36) and James Hadjiloukas (29), contributing to a strong score of 5/183. For Puckapunyal, Danny Fountain was the only player to claim multiple wickets.

In reply, Puckapunyal made a solid start through Charles Davies (29) and Nicholas Bennetts (59) but wickets fell at regular intervals as the game tightened up. Three wickets each from Anthony Pratt and Alexander Ryan proved crucial for Pyalong, as they were able to keep Puckapunyal to 182, falling agonisingly short of a second win in a row.

The Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever All Girls Cricket League, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at inspiring more female participation in cricket across the region. The competition will kick off at Puckapunyal on Wednesday, 3 December, with six action-packed rounds scheduled over the first three Wednesdays of December and February. The league will feature four teams: Puckapunyal, Tallarook, Yea, and a composite SDCA All Stars team. In an exciting twist, all games will be played simultaneously, ensuring a fast-paced and engaging experience for players and spectators alike. Matches will follow the popular Master Blaster format, using a soft ball to keep the focus on fun, inclusivity and skill development. The 12 over a side games will see every player bat in a pair for four overs and bowl two overs each. Double runs are on offer in a Power Play Zone and players hit the ball of a tee following a wide or no ball. This format emphasizes teamwork, fast scoring and continuous action, making it perfect for introducing new players to the game while keeping the intensity high. “This is a historic moment for the SDCA,” SDCA President Mitch Itter said. “Our All Girls League is just the beginning of our commitment to growing female participation in cricket. “We’re incredibly excited to see these young athletes take to the field, develop their skills, and build a lifelong love for the game.” “It’s all about having fun while learning the fundamentals. “Master Blaster cricket allows everyone to be involved, and the energy around this league is already electric. “We can’t wait to see the competition unfold over December and February.” The SDCA is encouraging any girls interested in playing to contact their local cricket club or the SDCA President Mitch Itter directly at pres.sdca@gmail.com . With this inaugural season, the association hopes to lay the foundation for a vibrant, long-term pathway for girls in cricket across the region.
