Puckapunyal 111 (D Fountain 31, J Nipperess 22, K Winnell 4/21, B Trezise 2/16) def by Tallarook 167 (M Itter 73, J Rudge 24, D Fountain 4/28, N Bennetts 2/18)

Tallarook won the toss and opted to bat in its Round 6 clash with Puckapunyal.

Openers Mitch Itter and Hamish Melville got Tallarook off to a solid start before Melville was finished for 16.

Itter did most of the damage through the middle of the innings before holing out for 73. His innings was supported by Josh Rudge (24) and Leigh Irving (22).

Danny Fountain was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 4/28 as Tallarook slumped from 4/152 to be all out for 167.

Blake Munari-O’Dwyer picked up the crucial wicket of Charles Davies early in Pucka’s reply and a tight spell of bowling from Ben Trezise saw him also pick up a couple of early wickets.

Despite some lower order resistance from Danny Fountain (31) and Jacob Nipperess (22), Tallarook cooked a 56 run win, with skipper Kal Winnell backing up his six wickets last week with 4/21.

Avenel 110 (T Stefanos 14, W Dowley 14, W Ashton 6/21) def Alexandra 63 (S Whitehead 17, J Kanters 6/11)

Avenel played host to Alexandra with Avenel looking to secure its first win of the season.

It proved to be a difficult day for the batters with runs hard to come by. Travis Stefanos and Warren Downey both scored 14 as the ball held the upper hand throughout the day.

For Alexandra it was Will Ashton who took all before him, claiming the sensational figures of 6/21, going right through Avenel’s middle order to bundle them out for 110 after 41 overs.

With a low total on the board to run down, Alexandra got off to a positive start through a 35 run partnership between Scott Whitehead and Ben Wallis.

Once they were dismissed the momentum changed completely as Jamie Kanters did to Alexandra what Will Ashton had done to Avenel earlier in the day.

Kanters dominated the afternoon as Alexandra lost all 10 wickets for 28 runs, Kanters himself finishing with 6/11, taking Avenel to their first win of the season.

Pyalong 7/136 (J Pryor 32, J Hadjiloukas 28, L Drummond 2/29, D Bergowicz 2/36) def by Seymour 5/138 (L Drummond 86)

Pyalong v Seymour was set to be the match of the round with second spot on the ladder up for grabs.

Jamie Pryor (32) and James Hadjiloukas (28) combined to set up a strong position for Pyalong with the bat. Alexander Ryan chipped in with some handy lower runs as Pyalong post 136 from 44 overs.

In reply Lachlan Drummond was the star of the show for Seymour, smashing 86 opening the batting, including 7 fours and 2 sixes.

He played a lone hand as the Maroons ran down Pyalong’s total with plenty of overs to spare.

The Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever All Girls Cricket League, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at inspiring more female participation in cricket across the region. The competition will kick off at Puckapunyal on Wednesday, 3 December, with six action-packed rounds scheduled over the first three Wednesdays of December and February. The league will feature four teams: Puckapunyal, Tallarook, Yea, and a composite SDCA All Stars team. In an exciting twist, all games will be played simultaneously, ensuring a fast-paced and engaging experience for players and spectators alike. Matches will follow the popular Master Blaster format, using a soft ball to keep the focus on fun, inclusivity and skill development. The 12 over a side games will see every player bat in a pair for four overs and bowl two overs each. Double runs are on offer in a Power Play Zone and players hit the ball of a tee following a wide or no ball. This format emphasizes teamwork, fast scoring and continuous action, making it perfect for introducing new players to the game while keeping the intensity high. “This is a historic moment for the SDCA,” SDCA President Mitch Itter said. “Our All Girls League is just the beginning of our commitment to growing female participation in cricket. “We’re incredibly excited to see these young athletes take to the field, develop their skills, and build a lifelong love for the game.” “It’s all about having fun while learning the fundamentals. “Master Blaster cricket allows everyone to be involved, and the energy around this league is already electric. “We can’t wait to see the competition unfold over December and February.” The SDCA is encouraging any girls interested in playing to contact their local cricket club or the SDCA President Mitch Itter directly at pres.sdca@gmail.com . With this inaugural season, the association hopes to lay the foundation for a vibrant, long-term pathway for girls in cricket across the region.
